Shirley Anita Chisholm was an American politician, educator, and author. In 1968, she became the first African-American woman elected to the United States Congress, representing New York’s 12th congressional district for seven terms from 1969 to 1983.
“Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.” – Shirley Chisholm.
This means being of service to others in whatever way fits your lifestyle. It could be donating money by writing a check. Service to others could be serving meals in a food kitchen or donating time to the homeless. It could mean assisting your community by donating time to the boys and girls club.
Whatever way you choose to be of service to others, it is a minimal price to pay for your occupancy on earth. It keeps your life in balance. Otherwise, you just take from the world, which keeps you in a state of surviving rather than thriving.
